Track 1: “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” – There’s more great ideas in this one pop song than there is in the entirety of most pop albums.
Track 2: “Baby Be Mine” – An under appreciated song that keeps the boogie going after the outstanding opener.
Track 3: “The Girl Is Mine” – Paul McCartney joins Michael Jackson on this silly love song (that Michael wrote.) Yes, it’s silly but it’s still a nice little tune and I like the playful interaction between these two music legends.
Track 4: “Thriller” – The ultimate Halloween pop song which is the soundtrack to the greatest music video ever. One of three songs on the album written by Rod Temperton. He also wrote “The Lady In My Life” and “Baby Be Mine.”
Track 5: “Beat It” – MJ’s version of rock music includes a great Eddie Van Halen guitar solo that made this song the favorite Michael Jackson song for many rockers.
Track 6: “Billie Jean” – Still sounds fresh over 25 years later. This is a song that “commands people to the dance floor.” And you should know that MJ wrote this brilliant pop song himself.
Track 7: “Human Nature” – I love the combination of a really beautiful tune along with somewhat disturbing lyrics such as “she likes the way I stare.”
Track 8: “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” – There are so many things I love about this song. The incredible energy in Michael’s voice. The “robot” & “chipmunk” voices. The irresistible urge to dance that it gives me. A great song.
Track 9: “The Lady In My Life” – This is probably the most forgettable song on the album but it still has some really nice moments. Particularly once it gets going after a somewhat lethargic beginning.

Listeners can only have two reactions to Britney Spears’ Womanizer single. You can either love or hate it. And for this writer, the reaction is definitely not the latter.
For years, fans have missed the kind of music only Britney Spears can give. And with the release of Blackout the album, the pop superstar announced to the world that she is back after a couple of tumultuous years. Her comeback was made official by a lackluster (and oftentimes lambasted) performance at the MTV VMAs where she did not appear to be in her element.
Blackout turned out to be her most unsuccessful album in her career. She then released a track from her upcoming album called Womanizer which seemed to have redeemed her from the mess she made at the MTV Awards. The track contained everything that is Britney Spears: funky, interesting, and catchy. It will make you dance and groove. You will experience last-song-syndrome after listening to it.
Even though the lyrics were not as deep as one would expect from someone who’s been in the business for a long time, they were relatable. Fans will be able to connect to the song because they understand what it is all about: a womanizer who’s been found out by the girl he likes. Womanizer, woman-womanizer You’re a womanizer Oh womanizer, Oh you’re a womanizer baby You, you, you are You, you, you are Womanizer, womanizer, womanizer. Now that he has been outed, the girl would not let him get even to first base. Nikesha Briscoe and Rapheal Akinyemi did a great job penning the words.
The composers of the song have infused the new trend in pop songs: futuristic sounds and electro-punk feel. It definitely added to the appeal of the song. But it would seem more suitable if the song is devoid of this and concentrated on sticking to the bubblegum pop genre, which is what Britney Spears is famous for.
But despite that, the song still sounds great. You can’t deny the fact that it is a hit. Britney has her elements in the song: nice lyric, phrasing, the distinctive vocals and tempo.
Most artists would like to come out with a different sounding records. Britney was among them (she had a collaboration with Madonna) but with this particular track, it seemed she went back a couple of steps. The way Womanizer was arranged (taking the futuristic sound away), it sounded like the kind of record she would sing years ago, but it is NOT an issue because it sounded great. It was wise to go back to basics after her hiatus because it re-solidified her hold in the pop scene.
There is really nothing much to say about this single except that it meets our expectations. We expect nothing from Britney Spears but good quality music, and that is what she just gave us with Womanizer.
