Enjoy a Movie at Home and Rent

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Hard day at work? Home alone with no plans nor obligations for the night? Why not stay and watch one of your favorite movies? It’s a great way to spend the night at home.

What can beat a great show with a few of your fave snacks sitting down on your comfortable chair? Especially after a dull of even stressful day.

And, no need to be greedy about having a great time. You can also share the enjoyment with your family and even make a family night out of it. Renting a movie is a great way to bond with the family.

Movies are known to be great conversation starters and who said unwinding is best done alone. Share the experience with the whole family.

You can pop a bag of popcorn, or you can go a healthier route if thats a concern. Those extras dont really matter – when you are all together, its great. Fruits and nuts can be great alternatives to less healthy snacks. Or you can skip the snacks entirely.

Of course, depending on your movie choice during the rental night, everyone watching may be too engrossed in the film to even care what they’re snacking on.

A really big trend going on right now is renting movies online. This option is absolutely perfect for those who tend to rent movies very often. Some of the online rental service providers offer full year memberships so that you can enjoy renting as much as you want all year round.

Of course, this is only a good option if you and your family rent movies on a regular basis. Compare the costs. It may be a great deal for you, especially if everyone in your house likes a different kind of movie.

Another perk of renting online through memberships is the convenience of not having to make that trip to the rental store every time. You simply receive and return your movies via the mailbox. Who likes to make that trip after a long day at work?

Most memberships make it very easy to select the movies that you want. All it takes is a simple click of a button and your movie rental will be in your mailbox the next day.

There is usually a much wider selection from online companies online than from the neighborhood video store.

So, whether your prefer the old fashioned method of getting up and getting your movie, or the new modern way of movies-in-the-mail, take a night for yourself and enjoy a movie night at the comfort of your own home.

Karaoke Songs – Choosing The Best Fit For Your Voice

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

The biggest decision that any karaoke singer has to make for karaoke is what song they should undertake on stage. There are literally thousands of tracks available with most karaoke sets, so it can be demoralizing looking through the massive book of songs, but if you keep in mind a few tips it will make your night simpler, and allow as much enjoyment as possible.

First, it is noteworthy to only choose songs that you can sing well and befits your vocals. Whether it is your 1st time or 101st time, you have to make sure that you can attain at least majority of the tones you need. If you have a low voice, there is no point of choosing artists like Celine Dion or Whitney Houston, and the same goes for high-pitch voices; Barry White should be out of the question. Alternatively choose karaoke tracks that fit within your vocal range, and that way rather of concerning about if you can hit that powerful note coming up, you will be able to loosen and just enjoy the song.

Selecting the proper karaoke song also depends on what you are getting up stage for. If you are with friends, and looking at getting up as a group for a bit of fun, it is prudent to pick out an up-tempo song that fits your mood instead of a slow ballad. If you are a regular, and want to take something a bit more difficult, there is nothing inappropriate in selecting a slower song if you can handle it.

If you’re celebrating an adult / older folks birthday with a karaoke party. You need to acknowledge what songs to choose. Do your homework. You don’t want to choose any old karaoke song; you require to choose karaoke music that conjures a feel of nostalgia. Determine what songs were best-selling when the party honoree grew up. Your best bet is to distinguish the top 10 songs of each year or decade and build up your play list round those karaoke tracks.

But a little point to think about most karaoke bars is that most individuals are out to have a great time, so picking out a slow and gloomy song that does not truly fit the ambiance of the room can have drastic consequences.

Ultimately, when selecting your karaoke track it is better to find a song with a melody and words that you are at least familiar with. You do not have to recognise every song you get up stage for off by heart (thats why the TVs are there to help you) but choosing a karaoke song that you have heard more than once or twice will give you a bit more confidence in singing on stage.

What is the Difference between Digital and Film Cameras?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Filmmakers have a lot of choices to make when taking on a film project. Things such as script choice and what team to put together are very important. However, another crucial decision that must be made is whether to use a film camera such as a High 8 or a digital camera that uses a hard drive or SD memory card.

Either one is perfectly fine to use and each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here are just a few of the differences between each.

Film Cameras

As you would suspect, a film camera requires film. The most recognized film camera is the High 8. This cameras film quality is very similar to that of a digital camera. Additional models include the 16mm and the Super 8 which are the old reel to reel cameras invented way before VCR’s.

Film cameras offer filmmaker’s a much richer looking film. However, the disadvantage to this is that you will need to have the film processed. While this process only takes a day or two, it is very difficult to find a center willing to work with a filmmaker on a budget. But, if you do you will end up with a clear, more engaging film.

A camcorder that uses VCR tapes is another option. The tapes needed are very inexpensive and generally readily available. However, the disadvantages to this method are the fact that you must rewind in order to see the scenes you have already shot. If you find a scene you are not satisfied with your options are to tape over it or use a new tape. Furthermore, VCR tapes tend to wear down over time which will give your film a choppy, poor quality look.

Film and tape have an additional downfall, they most often appear dark. In order to prevent this, your goal is to provide adequate light while maintaining a natural feel.

Digital

Digital cameras are easier to find new, as they are phasing out the old tape camcorders. With the abundance of effects and editing options on a digital camera, you can make a professional looking film much faster than with film or tape.

Digital cameras have a disadvantage of the picture looking too bright or clear, with no depth to the scene. If you have ever looked at a picture on an old 35mm and compared it to a digital camera you will know what I mean.

While digital cameras are very clear, it is very difficult to get the same shading and lighting unless you are an expert at lighting and editing programs.

Digital cameras allow you to check your shots right away, by simply clicking on the play button or connecting the camera to a computer and watching it. It’s much easier to erase too, just click the delete button and it’s gone. You don’t have to worry about re-using tapes and having them wear out on you.

Another advantage to using a digital camcorder is it’s much easier to upload your film to your computer for editing. All you have to do is connect the camera, upload the files and open your editing program. With a tape camcorder, you will need a convertor to connect to the computer.

Special effects are a breeze with a digital camcorder as well. All you need is to open the files already loaded on your computer and simply add the effects you desire.

The final flaw to using a digital camcorder is the fact that ones that use a hard drive can be fairly expensive. Oftentimes, they run anywhere from $400 and up. However, there are camcorders available that use an SD or XD memory card just like your still camera. These are usually much cheaper, but their quality is just the same as the expensive ones.

When looking for a camera, it’s always best to know what you need it for. What types of films will you be making? Do you want the ease and convenience of digital? Or would you prefer the look and feel of film or tape cameras?

Once you decide this, it will make the choices much easier to make.

Has Stephon Marbury Gone Crazy?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Many know, that Stephon Marbury has been making a 24/7 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), internet show of his life. So far, on his self-produced show, people have seen him dance, cry, eat vaseline, etc. People are writing him off quickly as insane, troubled, internally damaged, crying for help, and more.

However, I think people are taking it too far. I think Marbury is having himself some fun. When you hear “Stephon Marbury eats vaseline”, you think he is crazy. However, he is simply using it as an old healing remedy for a sore throat. People don’t really seem to care Charles Barkley gets a DUI, Kobe Bryant allegedly raped a women, etc….but they care when Stephon Marury eats vaseline to clear his ailing throat.

I don’t know if Marbury is going crazy, or if he is fine, just having fun. I am not a part of the Marbury circle, in which I am neither nor a: family member, friend, etc. Thus, I am not going to interfere with his personal life. But, what I am doing, is sending Stephon Marbury a message, that if he cares about playing professional basketball anymore…the “Starbury TV” is not a dream.

Marbury must come to grips with the fact, life happens in some strange ways, and many times it may seem unfair. Marbury, you have always been among the elite players in the NBA. Obviously not as good as the likes of Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, etc…stars of today basically…but you were right up with the best.

On average, Marbury would get a team 20 ppg along with 8-10 apg. A solid shooter, scorer, speedy, nice crossover, nice defense, a nice package all around. The main problem he has run into is being too cocky, and not being the best team player.

In my opinion, the whole thing of “Marbury is crazy, selfish, self-centered, a waste of talent, not a good teammate…” is all way too overrated. The Knicks helped with that image the media likes to look at, which has been a huge helper in putting Marbury in the position he is as a basketball player.

Basically Marbury started over as a Boston Celtic. He did not complain, and was a good teammate, who helped with good production. He was a main person for defensive assignments late in close games, and he had contributed in scoring and moving the ball. As a Celtic, he seemed to be at times too un-selfish, passing on easy shots. It is not easy for him, because he wanted to portray a new image, and revive his career.

Marbury’s latest antics are quickly leading people to once again associate him with the clownish reputation he built up for himself these past few seasons in New York. The perceived narcissism of his video blog is the catalyst.

Allen Iverson sets an example that Marbury should follow. An elder statesman so to speak, Iverson has matured, accepted his role as an aging veteran, and is doing his best to fit the role as effectively as he possible can. It’s all about basketball in Iverson’s world, as should be the case in Marbury’s too.

Home Movie Theater: Screens

Monday, July 20th, 2009

When it comes to deciding on a projection or TV screen, the first consideration is the kind of screen you want or even may need. If the room where you are going to set up your home movie theater is a big one, then you will have to have a home theater projection screen or maybe you just want to go down that route anyway.

Personally, I like the idea of having a drop-down screen, but sometimes you have to have one anyway even in a modest-sized home movie theater. It would convert your living room into a home movie theater at the click of a remote. Imagine: you lie back in your chair; click the remote and the screen drops down; click another time and the lights dim; click another again and the movie starts!

However, if you prefer a television screen, then you might consider buying a new one. They say that a 27 inch screen is big enough, but I do not think it is. I really think you need 48-60 inches, but then I am a 50 something year old and my eyes are definitely not what they were.

If you are purchasing a new TV for your home movie theater, I think you should get the latest model. HDTV is upon us and since February 2009 the USA is committed to High Definition. So, I would make sure that your new television is capable of receiving it. Then I suggest that your new home movie theater screen be a flat one in order to reduce the annoying reflections that could ruin the experience, which could be another reason for choosing a projection screen.

Then you should make sure that the new television has enough input and output plugs for the equipment you have in mind and you’re ready. Therefore, to summarize, I would go for:

At least a 27 inch screen

A flat screen

HDTV compatibility

Enough input and output plugs and sockets

Satellite enabled

I recommend satellite compatibility because it is probably the future or near future at least. If you get a satellite TV connection you will have access to HDTV downloads which you can watch whenever you like.
