In the children’s fable of Chicken Little, the protagonist was a small barnyard hen who was hit on the head by a falling acorn. Rather than stopping and thinking about what happened in a logical manner, she became convinced that the sky was falling and that the king of the land needed to be warned.
As she ran to the castle, she was met by a number of other animals of the field and barnyard, including Goosey Loosey, Drakey Lakey, Turkey Lurkey and Ducky Lucky. Each of these friends is convinced by Chicken Little that the sky is falling and soon join her on her quest to tell the king.
When finally they run into Foxy Loxy, a fox who offers to take all of them to the king in his comfortable sack, the story takes a dark turn. Of course the fox has no intention of ever taking them to the king and has many plans to simply devour the credulous fowl.
In the Disney film of the same name, Chicken Little is rewritten as a young male rooster who at a young age alarmed his town by declaring that the sky was falling. He is met with ridicule from the town and shame from his father, forcing him to become something of an outcast. He finds companionship by hanging out with other children who were often bullied by Foxy Loxy and Goosey Loosey. Chicken Little’s friends include Abby Mallard, who is referred to as the Ugly Ducking, Runt of the Litter, and Fish out of Water, who wears a glass bowl full of water around his head.
Chicken Little manages to perform some heroics during a memorable baseball game, but during his celebration, manages to be hit by another piece of the sky. Before he loses his senses, he sees that this piece of the sky is actually a part of an invisible alien spacecraft. The aliens leave, but not before one of them has been left behind. Chicken Little, who has once again rung the bell to warn his town, is once again ridiculed.
The gears start turning when the aliens return for their lost child and start vaporizing the townspeople, including among them, Foxy Loxy and the mayor. When the small alien is reclaimed by his parents, the people who were laser beamed are revealed to have been taken aboard the ship and are returned unharmed. Everything returns to normal and the movie ends with Hollywood arriving to make a summer blockbuster smash out of the recent events.

The physical Pooh, owned by Christopher Robin Milne, was named after a bear named Winnipeg that lived at the London Zoo, and Pooh, a swan that they had encountered over the holidays. The first book that mentions Pooh, titled When We Were Very Young, explains that Pooh’s arms were so stiff that he could not use them to swat away flies; instead he needed to blow them away, resulting in the “pooh” sound and his subsequent nickname.
The Hundred Acre Wood that dominates the Winnie the Pooh books is most likely based on Ashdown Forest in East Sussex England. This was where Milne lived and his son grew up, and the name of the forest itself is much like that of the Five Hundred Acre Wood, which is close to Ashdown Forest.
The first Winnie the Pooh book was published in 1925 and was titled simply Winnie the Pooh. This initial story introduces many of the characters filmgoers are now familiar with, including the toy animals of Pooh, Piglet, and Eeyore, as well as the live animals of Owl and Rabbit. Latter in the tale, Kanga, a mother toy kangaroo and her baby Roo are introduced as well. While most of the stories are original, some had been previously published in the Evening News and some poetry works. Tigger would not be introduced until the second book, House at Pooh Corner.

Walt Disney is beloved for creating characters that people remember fondly long beyond the boundaries of childhood. Among these are the memorable collection of characters who inhabit the Hundred Acre Wood. Disney’s numerous Winnie the Pooh tales follow the plots of stories originally published by English author A.A. Milne in the 1920s.
Interestingly, many of Milne’s characters were inspired by his son Christopher’s collection of stuffed animals. Christopher’s teddy bear, the model for Winnie the Pooh, got his name from an actual bear named Winnipeg whom the family liked to visit at the London Zoo. The “Pooh” bit came from the name of a swan. Milne’s sweet stories are charmingly written and still have great appeal to young audiences.
Winnie the Pooh and his friends have appeared in several Walt Disney animated features over the past four decades, even making it to the big screen. One of the most popular releases and one with particular appeal to the smallest of audiences is Piglet’s Big Movie.
Piglet’s Big Movie lets Piglet blossom as the hero he really has been humbly inhabiting through all the friends’ adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood. The story does not begin triumphantly for Piglet however, as he is brushed aside as too little to be of any assistance help in his friends’ hunt for honey (or “hunny” as Pooh spells it!)
