‘Easy A’ Film Delivered Funny Stuff With Emma Stone
Wednesday, February 9th, 2011Screen Gems recently came out with a new comedy/action flick titled “Easy A” into theaters a while back. I finally got around to watching it,and I agree with the top critics’ positive opinions on this one. It was an excellent film.
Emma Stone should be a comedian because she was very funny in this film. Her and good ole Amanda Bynes really delivered some good drama and comedy. It stars: Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet, Lisa Kudrow, Malcolm MacDowell, Aly Michalka, and Stanley Tucci.
“Easy A” centered around character Olive (Stone) who,one day, gives into her friend’s intense desires for her to tell her she finally had sex with a college dude. Soon enough, the rumor spreads like wildfire throughout the school. And,all of a sudden, Olive goes from being unnoticed most of the time to being constantly stared at and talked about. It also doesn’t sit well with self righteous Christian freak Marianne (Bynes). She constantly tells Olive she needs to beg for forgiveness from God.
Nothing stops there. Olive eventually helps out her gay friend named Brandon from continuing to get picked on by pretending to have sex with him. From that point, the rumors got worse, but Olive embraced them, and continued to help create more of them by taking offers from other guys. As the hype of her being easy continues to perpetuate, she plays the role very convincingly by wearing skimpy outfits with the letter “A” sown into them.
Towards the end,one final event makes her want to set the real record straight. I thought the movie was very funny as it included scenes, which featured Olive making fake sex noises with Brandon, lots of quick, witty remarks,Olive’s mother revealing that she was a slut in high school, and more.
The movie delivered non-stop laughs. It never had a boring moment, and kept me highly entertained the entire hour and a half. That Emma Stone is a jewel of an actress. This movie made me a big fan of hers. It was cool to see Amanda Bynes return to the big screen . She was also very funny. Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley did a great job as the cool, calm, collective guy named Woodchuck Todd. If you want to laugh your butt off, definitely check out this movie. I gave it an easy “A+.”.

‘Buried’ Movie Featured Tons Cool Drama
Wednesday, February 9th, 2011The studios released the Ryan Reynolds branded, thriller flick named “Buried” into movie theaters a few months ago. I finally checked it out last night, and totally agree with the top movie critics’ positive assessment of the film.
It delivered a very creative storyline with lots of drama. Unfortunately, I think I may have developed a slight case of claustrophobia when watching it and imagining if I was buried in a coffin. The flick stars: Ryan Reynolds and Jose Maria Yazpik.
“Buried” centered around character Paul (Ryan Reynolds). He’s a truck driver over in Iraq, and wakes up to find himself buried alive in a coffin, tied up with only a cigarette lighter, cell phone,a couple of glow lights, knife, and a flash light. He eventually finds out about all these tools at different times during the movie.
Paul immediately starts panicking. Later on, he’s able to untie himself, get the lighter, and calls everyone he knows. After a couple of answering machines and leaving a couple of messages, he gets connected with a hostage specialist in Iraq who is working quickly to try and find him.
Paul gets a couple of calls from his kidnappers. They demand $5 million dollars from the embassy for them to release him. Unfortunately,a number of bombing events make it more difficult for the hostage specialist to find him,and the movie eventually ends with a shocking conclusion.
The movie was excellent. It was about an hour and 20 minutes of just Ryan’s character trapped in a wooden coffin. However,it still managed to deliver some “edge of your seat” scenes. There were a few incidents that caused other things to enter the coffin with him that weren’t good for his life, and it was interesting to see what he came up with to get out of those situations with his very scarce resources.
The movie damn near gave me claustrophobia by just watching it because these movies are really great at bringing someone into the world of the film, and it was really hard to imagine being trapped in a coffin. It had me thinking about what would I do if that ever happened to me. It was a very interesting and unique movie. I gave it a grade A for the uniqueness, alone.

‘The Rite’ Film Delivered Extreme Exorcism Scenes With Anthony Hopkins
Wednesday, February 9th, 2011New Line Cinema released a new horror/thriller movie titled “The Rite” into theaters. I just got done checking it out,and it was very good. It featured a lot of intense exorcism scenes with acting legend Anthony Hopkins. The film stars: Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Rutger Hauer.
The movie revolved around Michael Kovak and Father Lucas Trevant. Michael is a beginning Priest who has issues with his faith. He has trouble believing that the Devil exist as well as so-called Demonic possessions. The movie shows a lot of flashbacks to Michael’s childhood where he first developed his faith issues when his father died.
Michael ends up traveling to Italy to learn about exorcism from Father Lucas because his American teacher thought he needed to get some “hands on” experience with exorcism since he showed so much doubt. As soon as he arrives at Lucas’ house,he gets introduced to his first live exorcism with a girl who is pregnant, and goes in and out of possessions.
Even with all the convincing evidence of demonic possession,Michael still doubts the faith. The girl spits out nails, blood, her voice changes to a demon’s voice, she becomes an extreme contortionist, and all other sorts of weird stuff, but Michael still swears that she just needs to see a psychiatrist.
Eventually, Michael starts getting issues of his own, which were brought on by weird dreams he had about his dead father. Father Lucas tries to help him through his issues. However, Michael’s doubting faith gets put to a major test when the demon possesses someone he never thought it would possess, and if Michael doesn’t collect some faith fast, his life and other’s lives are definitely in danger.
Michael and his female friend were in the room during the possession, and things get extremely bad. Finally, with his back up against the wall,Michael is forced to face the issues with his faith, and issues with God so he can overcome what is getting ready to kill him. The conclusion was quite intense and really had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
In my opinion, the movie was very entertaining and interesting. However, there were some slow scenes during the film, and I found myself dosing off a bit. However, when things picked up,they really picked up in a very major way. It featured a lot of “can’t miss,” intense scenes. The exorcism scenes were very disturbing and convincing. I gave the movie a B grade.

‘Skyline’ Movie Delivered Lots Of Intense Action & Thrills
Monday, February 7th, 2011Universal Pictures recently released a new sci-fi/thriller movie “Skyline” into theaters a couple months ago. I just checked it out. While it was exciting to watch, all the action and “edge of your seat scenes” lead up to no payoff in the end. It was very odd. It stars: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson, and Brittany Daniel.
The movie revolved around six partying males and females who have a really great time at a party during the night. However, the next morning, everything changes when weird lights and noises wake everyone up. They end up realizing this new, freakish light isn’t a good thing. As a matter of fact, it controls everyone who looks at it,and takes them away to only God knows where.
The group of friends start to immediately panic, and try to carry out a plan that involved getting in the car,and making a run for it. However they quickly find out that isn’t a good idea as the giant alien creatures show up everywhere, and they’re not friendly. The group of friends start getting killed until they dwindle down to just two people Jarrod and Elaine.
They end up emerging as the main stars of the flick. However, they aren’t victorious stars. They start running around everywhere, fighting off the giant creatures, along with the military forces that have been brought in to help fight the creatures.
The film features a lot of thrilling moments like people getting sucked up into the creature, heads being separated from bodies,Jarrod fighting as hard as he can to save the woman he loves, lots of guns being fired, and bombs exploding.
The film capped off with a very strange ending that revealed what the aliens were actually doing, but with absolutely no victorious payoff at all. It was a very odd way to end a high action, thriller flick like this. When I was leaving the theater, I heard one lady say, “I want my money back.” It definitely was not a typical ending for a thriller movie, and was a bit disappointing for me. However, everything before that, was really cool to watch, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I gave this movie a B-.
