Aside from the humor of the film, it had some very poignant observations about what it means to be an artist….and whether degrading yourself, and/or lowering your ideals, is really worth it.
I agree with you….the movie is definitely underrated. Fortunately, it’s retained a decent “cult” following. Hopefully, people will watch the full length version here on youtube, since it’s free..
I think this film definitely paved the way for shows like “In Living Color”, “Mad TV” and “The Chappelle Show”.
Urban satire through exaggerated stereotypes and absurd sketches is part of the genius of this film. And the film has “heart” too.
Robert Townsend never got the recognition he deserved. I hope that the people who missed seeing this cult classic will be inspired to watch it in it’s entirety.
