Alien Nation: Aliens are coming to Earth. It is an organized integration. With the aliens here, a new form of racism is building. The first alien policeman must work through this racism with his partner. They then gain respect for each other and set out to battle crime in the underworld of the alien world.
Curly Sue: Destitute con performer and his adopted waif parasite onto a tightly wound plate of a lawyer. She, in turn decides that this 4-flushing couple is just what she needs to improve her life. Lynch’s evident distress recommends she might have seen the hurries. Cast includes James Belushi, Kelly Lynch, Alisan Porter, John Getz, Fred Dalton Thompson, Cameron Thor, Steve Carell, and Edie McClurg. (101 minutes, 1991)
Aimee & Jaguar: Felice Schrader is a Jewish lesbian who’s engaged, “underground” style, by the Germans in 1943 Berlin, when Lilly Kohler has four youngsters by the Nazi spouse on whom she cheats-with other Nazis. The 2 ladies fall in love, which could appear severely contrived if it weren’t based on a real tale. Production values are surprisingly detailed and lush, and the performing is first-rate. Cast includes Maria Schrader, Juliane Kohler, Johanna Wokalek, Heike Makatsch, Elisabeth Degen, and Detlev Buck. (125 minutes, 1999)
Mr. Patman: Coburn is well cast in this complicated, badly made story of an alluring although barely crazy psycho-ward tidy and his shenanigans. Cast includes James Coburn, Kate Nelligan, Fionnula Flanagan, Les Carlson, Candy Kane, and Michael Kirby. (105 minutes, 1980)
Down to Earth: Homer Croy’s continuation to “They had to See Paris” has nouveau riche Midwesterner Rogers setting an end to his familie’s mindless investing by affirming that he’s broke. Alright Rogers’s motor vehicle, however not up to his best film attempts. Cast includes Can Rogers, Irene Opulent, Dorothy Jordan, and Mary Carlisle. (73 minutes, 1932)
Jack-Knife: Cast includes Easy and engaging tale of a Vietnam vet De Niro who looks up an old Army friend Harris and tries to get him to face up to his censored flashbacks of Nam, and their reciprocal best buddy who died there. In the mean time, a romance blossoms between De Niro and Harris’ wallflower sibling, with whom he lives. Cast includes Robert De Niro, Ed Harris, Kathy Baker, Charles Dutton, and Loudon Wright.
