Are animated Disney movies considered haram?

Written on July 2, 2009 – 4:10 am | by admin |

I’ve seen different views from muslims in regards to this. I, like most non-muslims, see nothing inappropriate with them. However, I’ve heard criticism from some muslims due to the love stories or clothes of the characters, etc. So I’m just wondering how widespread this view of Disney is?

And to make it into a double question – what’s the alternative for children from the ages of 6-12? You can answer reading or playing but most children will at some point in their lives watch some sort of TV or movies.

Disney movies have adult undertones that desensitize children to sin ,basically that is the view.

As far as an alternative, I have stopped letting my kids watch most tv shows and instead buy or rent movies that I can view first to check their content. There are some classics that are still on Tv like Sesame Street and reading rainbow. Just be careful of allowing kids to watch age inappropriate shows. I don’t agree with my kids watching Hanna Montana because they are 4 and 5 but I allow my 13 year old to watch it. There are good messages to be learned by some of the shows but they might be hard for small kids to understand.

Most important is for parents to be a good example, no matter how many shows kids watch it is the parents that they copy.

If you mean seraglio, then possibly. The Mark of the Beast (666) appears in the Walt Disney logo. The W begins as a 6. The dot of the "i" in Disney is also a 6. I’m sure you’ll catch on and see the last if pausing, let’s say . . . National Treasure . . . before the "Feature Presentation."

Umm. i think thats rather ridiculous, actually.
If we’re in America, and love stories are part of our culture, how about they be a little more American and stop complaining. That is really quite childish, actually.

To answer your double question :-)
It seems to be that though the Classic Disney movies are wholesome and sweet (Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, etc.) the recent ones are getting to be more crude and vulgar. I have also found Disney Shows (Hannah Montana, etc.) to be increasingly stupid and vulgar, promoting rudeness and crudeness.

I personally think that Pixar, though a division of Disney, now is making more family friendly, intelligent movies for Children. Ratatouille is a great one with gorgeous animation, and Wall-E, though slow moving at times, has nothing objectionable in it. Others are Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and A Bug’s Life.

There are always the classics of course, such as The Wizard of Oz, which everyone should see at least once, and movies such as ‘American Tail,’ which though a little scary in parts is an adorable story.
Here are a list of some classic Children’s movies.

I agree, it is difficult to find movies that are as good as they used to be. But don’t give up! Don’t settle for the bad stuff that’s out there! With a little work, you can find good movies for kids :-) .

    Good Luck!!
